Google plans to revoke others’ Chromium-based browsers’ entry to a protracted listing of APIs that energy such fashionable companies as bookmark and settings synchronization.

“We found that some third-party Chromium-based browsers have been capable of combine Google options, comparable to Chrome Sync and Click on to Name, which are solely supposed for Google’s use,” Jochen Eisinger, Chrome engineering director, wrote in a Jan. 15 submit to an organization weblog.

Entry to what Eisinger labeled “our non-public Chrome APIs” shall be blocked beginning March 15.

Though Eisinger talked about solely two APIs by title — Google Sync and Click on to Name — as effected by the brand new rule, a hyperlink he provided led to a web page that lists 20 APIs, together with these for calling on companies like Google Translate and Secure Searching. The latter warns customers after they attempt to steer to probably harmful web sites.

Some or all of these APIs might also be out of bounds come the center of March.

“Lots of the Google APIs utilized by Chromium code are particular to Google Chrome and never supposed to be used in derived merchandise,” that web page said.
